Amber is regarded as a spiritual gemstone in both Chinese and Western cultures.
Throughout history, amber has been listed as one of the Seven Treasures of Buddhism. It is used to make prayer beads and Buddha statues, and is believed to help calm the mind, achieve enlightenment, and eliminate negative karma. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), amber is called “Yu Pei” (育沛). When ground into powder, it can be used as a medicine to promote diuresis and calm the nerves. Succinic acid – an active compound naturally present in amber – is slowly released upon contact with the skin and is traditionally believed to help relieve muscle soreness. Wearing amber for a long time is said to stabilize emotions, reduce nightmares, and ease anxiety, making it especially suitable for people who tend to overthink or suffer from poor sleep.
In the West, amber has been used by witches and spiritual practitioners as a “purification stone” – it absorbs negative energy while forming a protective shield against external disturbances. The warm, smooth texture and gentle color of amber also help create a sense of inner calm.
