ls it OK to take melatonin every night?

Melatonin is a hormone in the human body. When we’re exposed to sunlight during the day, the photoreceptor cells in our retina store it and send it to the pineal gland. Then, around 9:00 PM, the pineal gland activates melatonin synthesis and releases a large amount of this hormone, inducing sleepiness. It acts as the body’s own sleeping pill. Taking melatonin can help you fall asleep, but it doesn’t help you stay asleep. Occasional use can help you fall asleep, but frequent use can reduce your ability to secrete melatonin, effectively suppressing your natural sleep

Under what circumstances can we consider taking melatonin?

If you have short-term sleep problems due to jet lag, working the night shift, or staying up late, you might consider taking a low dose of melatonin (0.5 to 1 mg) two to four hours before bedtime to mimic the body’s biological metabolism and improve sleep.
This shouldn’t be taken as a sleeping pill right before bed. It can only help alleviate short-term sleep problems. If you have long-term, severe insomnia, it won’t be very effective.

Magnesium, melatonin, sleeping pills, and tranquilizers can only temporarily treat insomnia, but their effects are relatively short-lived. For short-term insomnia, magnesium, melatonin, sleeping pills, and tranquilizers can be effective. However, for long-term, chronic, and intractable insomnia, physical constitution factors and other causes are often involved. Simply using magnesium, melatonin, sleeping pills, and tranquilizers cannot resolve the underlying cause, nor can it change your physical constitution. We need to address the problem from a holistic perspective, regulate our physical constitution, fundamentally change our constitution, and eliminate any associated symptoms. Everyone’s physical constitution is different. So the solution is also different.
Chronic, persistent insomnia often stems from factors related to the physical constitution and other underlying causes. Therefore, treatment for chronic, persistent insomnia must be directed towards improving the physical constitution. Any treatment that doesn’t address the physical constitution will only temporarily “paralyze” the nerves and ultimately fail to provide improvement.
